Stanley Plaza is an exclusive shopping complex situated between Carmel Road and Stanley Main Street, overlooking the scenic Stanley Bay. There are three distinctly different structures, the Shopping Centre, Murray House and the Village Square, all specially designed and built in harmony with the surrounding environment.
Village Square, an outdoor performance venue covered by canvas ceiling, has been a popular place for staging various kinds of events and performances.
Originally built in the 1840's in the Central District to house the offices of the British armed forces, Murray House is one of the oldest remaining Victorian buildings in Hong Kong. When it was torn down in 1982 to make way for the Bank of China Tower, each piece of the 3,000 granite stones was painstakingly numbered to enable reconstruction in another location. As the first historic building reconstruction project in Hong Kong, this magnificent building was then re-erected, piece by piece, as part of Stanley in 1998. Today, this irreplaceable monument of history has become a dining landmark in Hong Kong as well as a major tourist attraction.
