The community-oriented retail and car park facilities that comprise The Link REIT's extensive portfolio are at the doorstep of over 40% of Hong Kong’s total population. Therefore, we are keen to advance community sustainability and enhance our relationship with the community - a key stakeholder - through proactive engagement.

The Link REIT seeks to promote social and economic regeneration through helping the under-privileged and partnering with local institutions to create social capital and assets. We lease approximately 8% of floor area to charity organisations at concessionary rents. To further promote community building, we also offer full waivers or discounts on letting fees for venues to Government and charity organisations. The venues are typically used to host activities supporting local communities.

In addition to providing corporate sponsorships, we also encourage our staff to contribute to community sustainability by organising staff volunteer teams to visit elderly centres in the local estates.

Upgrading of Barrier-free Access Facilities

In January 2011, The Link REIT announced the earmarking of HK$200 million to review and upgrade all facilities for barrier-free access. The programme will be rolled out in three phases with anticipated completion of the last phase in 2016. This was the result of intense consultation with the Government, interest groups, local communities as well as subject experts.  Such commitment is a demonstration of how The Link REIT maintains and improves community sustainability through proactive and ongoing stakeholder engagement.

The Link Community Sports Academy

The Link Community Sports Academy was established in June 2012. Its objective is to better utilise the sports venues and recreational facilities in The Link’s portfolio by offering formal sports training to members of the community free of charge. It also aims to raise awareness of health in the community. In an effort to build a harmonious society, The Link Community Sports Academy reserves some places for low-income families and arranges special courses for people with disabilities and vulnerable groups in society. The Link Community Sports Academy also partners with tenants to serve the community.
