Web Care on The Link’s Corporate Website

The Link’s corporate website is one of the key communication platforms in conveying our business initiatives and messages to the community and the public. We have taken accessibility into our considerations when we revamped our corporate website with an objective to enable people with different levels and different forms of disabilities to browse the website without any barrier.

Contents in The Link’s corporate website since June 2011 follow the internationally recognized Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 of World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) in designing and providing the latest web care features for people with different disabilities, including blindness / low vision, deafness / hearing loss, learning disabilities, cognitive limitations, limited movement, etc. We have also consulted a number of rehabilitation groups on their website browsing habits to ensure the design of our corporate website is user-friendly to them.

Here below are some of the special web care features which facilitate people with disabilities to browse our website:

Accessible by Popular Browsers and Operating Systems

The XHTML 1.0 has been applied to the webpages on The Link’s corporate website. Users can access them with any browser that complies with the standard. But exactly how a webpage is displayed differs between browsers, computers and operating systems. For the best viewing, we suggest using Internet Explorer 7 or above for Windows or Firefox 3 or above, Safari 4 or above, or Chrome for Windows, Mac OS or Linux.

Screen Resolution

The contents of The Link’s corporate website can be best viewed at the screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels or above.

Text Only Version

Besides the standard graphical version with text and images, a special text only version for the visually impaired is also provided with the same content presented in clear and systematic format.

Enlarged Text Size (AAA)

Users can enlarge the text size up to 150% of its original size through a set of buttons on the top of every page.

Compatibility with Screen Readers and Screen Magnifying Software

The Link’s corporate website has been tested against the most commonly used screen readers and screen magnifying software, including JAWS 12 and Windows Light 2007.  The website also works on screen magnifying software such as Windows build in magnifier.

Use of Alternative text

Alternative text description is provided for all images displayed in the website. It can be read out by screen reader which enables visually impaired users to understand the image content.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Users who may be less adapt to using mouse, such as the blind or those with neuromuscular impairments, may need to use the keyboard without a mouse to browse a website. The Link’s corporate website was designed in a way that users can use the keyboard exclusively to access all features and contents. For example, when users use the tab key, the cursor will move to all of the menus, hyperlinks or input boxes one by one in a logical order.

Some browsers also provide keyboard shortcuts that can make it easier to browse the website with keyboard only. Lists of shortcuts for Internet Explorer and Firefox are available through the following links:
